Inground pools in Edmond
Edmond, north of Oklahoma City, asks pool owners to sign a homeowner acknowledgment of its barrier rules before the job moves ahead. The sheet is based on the 2015 International Swimming Pool and Spa Code (Edmond swimming pool barrier sheet).
What you are signing
By signing, the owner acknowledges it is illegal to use the pool before all final inspections are made and a Certificate of Occupancy is issued, agrees to pass the barrier rules on to future owners, and accepts that a violation may bring a fine of $200 per day plus court costs (Edmond swimming pool barrier sheet).
Which water features count
Barriers are required around anything meant for swimming or bathing with water over 24 inches deep: in-ground, aboveground and on-ground pools, hot tubs and spas (Edmond swimming pool barrier sheet).
Barrier specifics
- Top at least 48 inches above grade on the outside; no more than 2 inches between grade and the bottom (Edmond swimming pool barrier sheet).
- No opening that passes a 4-inch sphere (Edmond swimming pool barrier sheet).
- Chain link mesh no larger than 2.25 inches square unless slats reduce it (Edmond swimming pool barrier sheet).
- Solid barriers without footholds beyond normal tolerances (Edmond swimming pool barrier sheet).
Gates and doors
Pedestrian gates open away from the water, are self-closing and self-latching, and have a release at least 54 inches from the bottom (Edmond swimming pool barrier sheet). If a wall of the house is part of the barrier, you need a power safety cover meeting ASTM F1346 or audible alarms on doors to the pool (Edmond swimming pool barrier sheet).
Budget note
An estimate site lists Edmond at about $70,000 for gunite and $53,000 for fiberglass (PriceAPool Oklahoma estimates).
